I have never declawed any of the cats I have who have been indoor/outdoor cats. I have trained them to learn not to scratch on furniture and so far, not one of my cats has destroyed anything. Declawing seems only necessary for those who do not take the time to teach a cat not to scratch at furniture. It only takes a little consistency and discipline to train a cat, and they are trainable.
