While I was adamantly against declawing my cat and would have rather had my furniture destroyed than to declaw him, I came home one day and found him wailing in pain as he hung by 2 claws from our mini blinds. I assumed it was a one time thing... Until he continued to do it. His claws, though trimmed perfectly, got caught often and in considering that I was gone at work all day, I couldn't take a chance at him hurting himself any further. I ended up declawing and luckily he had NO problems at all. I tell this story only in contrast to those who pigeonhole all those who declaw their cats as unthinking and barbaric.
